I am a Michigan artist, illustator, designer and teacher, currently working in watercolor, pastel, oil, charcoal, acrylic, multi media and glass mosaic. As a painter, I specialize in ketubot, life cycle events, commission work, book illustrations, portraits, still life and landscape. My glass mosaic pieces include installations, furniture and art pieces. My work includes designing and running community art events and projects, designing exhibits, running school and community art programs and teaching both high school and community art. I judge student exhibitions both locally and nationally. I strive to transfer the joy I feel in creating my art to my students and clients.
Vivid colors, strong design and a sense of movement characterize my work. I take my inspiration from the natural world, particularly the way in which light plays upon surfaces. I strive to communicate ideas, feelings and inspirational learning into my pieces. In my teaching and community work, I focus upon community building and incorporate learning into the art projects.
I earned my B.F.A. from the University of Michigan in 1982. I sought additional training at the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit and at Wayne State University. I received a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Detroit in 1992. After working in private practice as a psychologist for eight years, I returned to my art, teaching and creating.
