I have taught classes for over 40 years in the following mediums: watercolor, drawing, acrylic painting, pastel, glass mosaic, and mixed media. I am skilled in teaching all age groups from children and adolescents to adults. Subjects have included: introduction to art, intermediate painting and drawing, advanced painting and drawing, figure drawing, figure sculpture, animal drawing, still life, perspective, composition, color, glass mosaic, art literacy, landscape in watercolor, pastel and acrylic and polymer clay. My teaching experiences include: teaching high school, middle school and elementary art, private classes, group classes, guest teacher at various secondary schools, camp art programs, artist in residence programs, community classes, mosaic workshops and online classes.
I began designing and directing community art projects in 2002 with large mosaics and murals. You can find these works throughout the metropolitan Detroit area.
From 2008-2012, I ran teacher workshops focusing on incorporating creativity into the classroom. I am a consultant with schools and teachers on incorporating creativity in the curriculum.
Teaching high school art at Frankel Jewish Academy from 2004-2016, my students consistently won local and national awards (Scholastic, Congressional, [email protected] Art, RAVSAK, Federation Passover art contest and more). I initiated several art projects whereby students designed and produced art products for the community. In addition I created a yearly art contest for my students. My psychology background has served me well in the classroom setting. I have developed a number of different techniques for motivating students to reach their potential. High standards for quality in my classroom are achieved in part due to good rapport with my students and clear and concise instruction. I enjoy teaching and my students enjoy participating in my classes and projects.
Most recently I have been teaching group and private glass mosaic workshops in-person and online.
